The Little Wrens from St Mary’s Barnard Castle have “had the best day” during their weekly local adventure, marking a special milestone as they visited our friends at The Manor for the very first time.
The children were welcomed with open arms as they spent the morning sharing cuddles, conversations, and craft activities linked to this week’s theme of Valentine’s Day. The visit was designed to help nurture intergenerational relationships—something the school continues to celebrate and encourage.
The session was filled with joy as the Little Wrens proudly showed their artwork, chatted happily with residents, and embraced the opportunity to “share the love” with their elderly friends. Staff at both St Mary’s and The Manor described the atmosphere as “wonderful”, noting how natural and heart-warming the interactions were.
“Their little faces say it all!”
Staff observed beaming smiles all round as the children and residents connected through simple, meaningful moments.
This first visit marks the beginning of a new intergenerational partnership between St Mary’s and The Manor—one that promises to bring benefits for both the children and the older residents, from boosting confidence and communication skills to reducing loneliness and strengthening community ties.
As part of their ongoing commitment to community engagement, the Little Wrens will continue exploring Barnard Castle through weekly local adventures, helping them build a sense of belonging, empathy, and joy in shared experiences.
