Pupil Premium
In 2011, the Government introduced a ‘pupil premium’ to raise achievement among disadvantaged children.
The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.
St Mary’s RC Primary School receives money for a small number of it’s pupils in receipt of Free School Meals or who have been in the care of the local authority for at least six months. Additionally some funding is available for pupils who live with service personnel, but we do not receive any of this funding. St Mary’s spends any monies received on activities and resources which will help to ‘Narrow any Gap’ between these pupils and their peers, assist them to break down any barriers they may have to their learning and provide them with varied experiences to enhance their learning and develop their talents and interests.

Sports Premium and Swimming Outcomes
The Government is providing primary schools with sport funding. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.
The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
