Faith In Action 2025- 26!
All children at St Mary’s do so much to follow Jesus’ example in serving others at school, however when our children reach Year 6 they are invited to join our Faith in Action group. Our Faith in Action Group are fully committed in taking greater responsibility to promote, drive and encourage the responsibility we all show, to actively help others. Projects include Cafod, Toilet Twinning, Readathon, Food Banks, church cleaning rotas… the list goes on! If successful, children receive their PIN level of the award. Our leaders are exemplary role models to other children and have an excellent awareness of our school virtues and CST key principles and how they shape lives.

Advent Lunches
Our Faith in Action leaders certainly put their faith into action this afternoon, serving local residents lunch at the Advent meals event held in the parish hall. It was gorgeous to see them interacting confidently with our neighbours and helping the parishioners to run this important event. Great job!
Wonderful to see so many of our Year 6 pupils expressing their interest in achieving their PIN level badge as part of the Faith In Action Group. We have had our initial meeting this half term and already the children have decided that their focused priority locally is to support the food banks with Food bank Fridays and also continue ( as part of our Live Simply Pledges) to visit our friends at The Manor House regularly to develop inter- generational relationships,
Their first project to support reaching beyond our local area this term is to support the Shoe Box Appeal ( Samaritans Purse) to help deliver joy to more children this Christmas. Further information about the Shoe Box Appeal below and the children will be delivering presentations and promoting the appeal within school and church too. Thank you!

Local Litter Pick during Lent
Our Faith In Action! We recognise we are all responsible for caring for our common home; looking after each other and the world we live in. Our lunch time ramblers have been busy this Lent; giving up some of their time to ensure we have litter free school grounds, as well as litter picking around our local area such as Bowes Museum, St Mary's Catholic Church and also our elderly residents areas too. What a wonderful thing to give up some of your time to do boys and girls- thank you also Miss Callender and Mrs Dominick for organising this.
Big Lent Walk
As part of our Lenten Journey, St Mary's have pledged to take part in this Year's Big Lent Walk with Cafod. We are looking forward to getting Robin Bear out and about with us, with his walking boots and raincoat ready- and even packing a suitcase for him to join our Year 5 and 6 retreat! Please see our Facebook page for further information and pictures, as well as the link to support and donate if you would like to.
Some of the children in Owls class enjoyed spending time with our neighbours and friends in town to help with the annual Advent lunch. They enjoyed offering their time to help serve and clear up in the kitchen. and they said it was lovely to spend some time chatting with some of the parishioners too. Well done Owls.
Faith In Action
Our Faith in Action group and their friends in Owls class went along to the Manor Residential Care home in Barnard Castle to sing for some of our elderly friends. Mrs Porter said that the children sang beautiful and the residents thoroughly enjoyed a sing- a- long too!
Thankyou Owls. We made a pledge to commit to serving our community and this is a wonderful example of us doing just that!
