This week, the children walked down to the river and built on their learning from English where they expanded their sentences to give further details for how to make an Egyptian Skiff boat. Using their knowledge and skills, the children began gathering sticks and learnt how to weave string and leaves to create their own skiff boat model. Once successful, the children had a boat race to determine which boast would be best for Pharaoh Amasis to sail on down the River Nile! Some of these boats were so good, we almost lost them as they set sail down River Tees at great speed! Well done boys and girls, your weaving skills were very impressive!

A wonderful local link to our connected curriculum at St Mary's- well done Swifts.

Larks:

This week we have been working collaboratively to develop our oracy skills to identify and say commands. We are going to be applying this skill during our independent work, when writing instructions for how to build a sandcastle. The children thought of lots of imperative bossy verbs to use and were great at following them to create a sandcastle! 🪣🪏🏖️They're a bossy bunch! Can they tell you the important punctuation mark that helps us identify a command too? I can see some of the children using this on their whiteboards in continuous provision too- brilliant!

A busy week for our Wrens and Robins. What writers we have in nursery! The children are growing in confidence and independence each day as they begin to apply their phonics skills to their writing- sounding out each letter as they write their words. Fabulous! Miss Pryke was very impressed as am I! The children also enjoyed working practically with their number bonds and then getting creative designing bunting as part of their RE learning around Pentecost. Wonderful!
