St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Barnard Castle is delighted to be working in partnership with William Smith to transform its pupil toilet facilities through an exciting, pupil-led improvement project.

Through pupil voice activities, the school identified that the current toilet areas were beginning to look dated. As a result, plans are now underway to completely refresh the spaces with new vinyl wraps, creating modern, welcoming environments for all pupils.

The project places children firmly at the heart of the decision-making process. Members of the School Council recently met with Mrs Box and Mrs Metcalfe for an initial design meeting, where they explored colour swatches and shared their ideas for the new look of the facilities.

The children are now putting their democracy skills into action by voting for their favourite colour schemes. Their choices will help determine the final two designs that will be used as part of the transformation.

This truly pupil-led project has been made possible thanks to the generous support of William Smith, who are fully funding the improvements. The school is incredibly grateful for their support and proud to have the UK's leading vinyl wrap and signage supplier based within the local community.

Staff and pupils are looking forward to seeing the transformation take shape and sharing updates, and eventually the finished results, with the wider school community. The project is a fantastic example of how pupil voice can help shape the school environment and ensure spaces meet the needs of those who use them every day.
