Children in Robins class at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Barnard Castle enjoyed a fantastic day of outdoor learning during a visit to Hamsterley Forest, where they completed the popular Gruffalo Trail.
Inspired by the much-loved story, pupils followed the trail through the forest, exploring the great outdoors while bringing the adventures of Mouse and the Gruffalo to life. The visit gave children the opportunity to immerse themselves in the story's woodland setting while enjoying nature, fresh air and physical activity.
Throughout the day, the children explored the forest environment, worked together and embraced the excitement of discovering the different stages of the trail. The experience helped to combine reading, storytelling and outdoor learning in a memorable and engaging way.
Robins class had a wonderful time from start to finish, with plenty of smiles, excitement and adventure along the way. The visit provided a fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop their love of reading while exploring one of the region’s most popular outdoor attractions.
It was a truly enjoyable day for everyone involved and one that the children will remember for a long time to come.
