This week has been an exciting one in Larks Class at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Barnard Castle, as our young learners have been diving into the world of architecture, maps and famous London landmarks. Their enthusiasm, creativity and imagination have truly shone!

Exploring Maps and London Landmarks

The children have been busy exploring maps of London, identifying well‑known landmarks and learning more about what makes each one special. Their curiosity has sparked brilliant classroom discussions, and they’ve shown a fantastic ability to recognise and describe key features.

Collaboration in the Construction Area

One of the highlights of the week has been the children’s work in our construction area. Working collaboratively, they planned, designed and built their very own structures inspired by iconic London sights. From sketching initial ideas to selecting materials and carefully building their creations, the children demonstrated impressive teamwork and problem‑solving skills.

Do you recognise any of their amazing models?
Why not ask them over the weekend if they can name some of the landmarks they’ve been learning about — Miss North is confident they absolutely can!

Creativity, Oracy and Future Architects

Alongside their creativity, the children have been developing strong oracy skills, confidently explaining their ideas, their design choices and the features of the landmarks they built. Their communication, imagination and attention to detail have been wonderful to watch.

Miss North has been incredibly impressed — and we think it’s safe to say we have some future architects in our midst!
