It was wonderful to see so many of our parents and Grandparents join us in EYFS this week for our themes Stay and Play. The theme this half term was 'Fire and Ice' linking to their learning in school. I didn't realise some of our children has such super powers! They can freeze you on the spot with just one word... 'freeze!!' A wonderful, fun and busy day. Thankyou everybody.
Larks have been very busy this week. We have continued our learning with 2's, 5's and 10's. We have focussed on counting in 10's this week. We have looked at number lines, number tracks, we have counted forwards and backwards. The children loved making rockets and used them to count backwards in 10's and we did hand prints to help us count in tens. They made number snakes outside counting in tens and even played a counting in tens hopscotch game. They have really enjoyed counting in 10's. We also became news reporters this week when we came into a crime scene in class. Our lion was taken and we started writing news paper reports to report this terrible news. The children were so excited and had so many questions. They wanted to solve the crime. I think we may have some police officers in the future.
This week the children have been focussing on fronted adverbials and instruction writing! Using inspiration from Oliver Twist, they created a recipe cookbook for, Glorious Gruel! With the help of Miss Herbert, they were able to find features of instruction writing and recipe creations! We couldn't believe how delicious the gruel turned out! Thank you Miss Herbert!
A few weeks ago, we invited Father Thomas into school to learn about the roles and responsibilities of being a Parish Priest. We could not believe the busy jobs, sacrifices, love and care Father Thomas puts into not only our Church Family but our community. We felt so inspired by Father Thomas that we created letters of thanks to let Father know how much we appreciate everything he does in our community and how we will continue to follow is example when following in Jesus' footsteps. Father, we think you are exceptional and hope you love the letters and gifts.
Owls linked their geography learning this week to their Live Simply pledge and went for a walk along the river, and litter picked on their way. Multi- tasking!! Owls then went back to the classroom and used their subject knowledge and observational skills from their local walk to help create their own river banks in design and technology.
