Starry Night ... Inspired by Van Gogh, Planned by Mrs Jennings and created by our wonderful Little Wrens and Robins.
How fantastic!
This week, the children have been learning all about Alexander the Great and how he got his name! The children got into Country teams and attempted to defeat Alexander the Great but unfortunately, they were all conquered and Alexander the Great expanded his Empire across Persia, Egypt, India and even Asia! The children were blown away with how he managed to rule so many countries as such a young age and developed questioning skills for their research to find out how Kings develop an empire and maintain it! Well done Swifts - Brilliant sword skills!
The Robins and Wrens have had some wonderful science and art sessions this week where we built on our prior knowledge of where we can find stars! We started with a scientific enquiry of wonder of our natural world and thought very hard about what a star is actually made of! We had some brilliant theories! Sand, gold, metal, rocks and even... CHEESE! We thought very hard for what stays light when it is dark and discovered stars are made from FIRE! We couldn't believe it! We then learnt that the sun is also a star made from fire and burning gases too! Which is why it is so hot in summer but so cold in winter! Brilliant links to the sun boys and girls! We began to look at Starry Night again by Vincent Van Goh and discovered some wonderful patterns of circles, swirls and textured printing. Using white, yellow and blue rice we decided to use our hands to create swirling circles and lines. Some of us even wanted to explore printing using the rollers and pegged pom poms to create swirls, circles and texture. Beautiful art work using different medias boys and girls! Your work is beautiful!
