Transition EYFS

"We're going on a bear hunt!"

This week in Robins, we have been learning all about bears who hide! We were a bit shocked to see that our biscuits had been taken by Big-Brown Bear, who had been sniffing in our bags for a delicious birthday treat to eat! We decided to plan a bear hunt to find her (and our biscuits!) to throw her a surprise birthday party.

We read, 'We're going on a bear hunt,' and developed some questions, "Where do bears like to hide?" "If I was Big-Brown Bear, where would I hide?" We were feeling a bit lost, so we decided to develop our inference skills, mapping out all of the places Big-Brown Bear may have been hiding! We also learnt she had plotted some clues around school to help us find her on our bear hunt!

Once we mapped out where we thought she was hiding, we needed to prepare for her party! We decided to write her a birthday card, making sure we carefully wrote our names so she knew who they were from!

Once we were ready, we adventured over the, big, grey yard, up the stony steps, weaving amongst the trees, through the wavey grass and a into the deep, dark cave! Big-Brown Bear was found! We were so happy that she left us some clues to help us! Once we got back to class, we had a big party for Big-Brown Bear and sang some lovely songs to make her smile! Fantastic orienteering and inference skills Robins! Well done!

Forest School with Dads, Grandads and older brothers...

A busy, butterfly session with dads and special people in our family this week. How wonderful to see older brothers join us too. Fantastic!

Larks have been making the most of the sunshine this week and enjoyed taking their learning outdoors. They have continued to explore their Seaside topic across all areas of the curriculum and have produced some exceptional pieces of writing. We have had puppet shows, shell themed ordering and counting and fun in the sand and water too. I wonder what the workers were constructing down on the beach... can they tell you?

Fantastic! Well done Larks.

The children in Swifts have been exceptionally busy with their learning this week! We started our week with a school trip to Hardwick Park. At Hardwick Park, we explored a wide range of plants and trees and discussed how they adapt to survive in their environment. We then learnt how plants adaptions change based on their environment and climate such as temperate and arid climates. We then explored how pollen spreads from one plant to another, sharing how plants create scents and colours to attract insects to pollinate them. This has opened up many wonderful questions about the life cycle of plants and how they are reproduced!

The children have also been dissecting plants in Science and have developed fantastic reasoning for why each part of the plant has a specific role. It was wonderful to see the children carefully feeling the plants while developing some very good observational skills. Well done boys and girls for you exceptional observational and classification skills today.

We also developed some new skills in cricket this week at Barnard Castle School. The children practised and improved their skills by working as a team, developing their under and over arm throws, bouncing and batting the balls and aiming for a target. The children were very enthusiastic throughout the event and can't wait to use these skills next week at Barnard Castle Cricket Club!
