What a royal week Robins and Wrens have had with their learning being centered around the story The Princess and the Pea. We have explored the technique of printing to create African patterns for a patch work quilt for the princess, made our own beds for the princess (complete with peas), learnt about the countries of the world that have princesses and made princess and the pea risotto. On Monday and Tuesday we also shared the love and grew in God’s love when we made collage hearts and explored our valentines themed activities. I think we are all ready for a rest over half term!
This week has been a lot of fun. We looked at art work by Paul Klee and we recreated some of our own. We really enjoyed making these. We celebrated Valentines day with lots of different activities. We learned about St Valentine, we made hearts using tissue paper, we painted valentines trees, we painted hearts using toilet rolls and we found missing numbers hidden in hearts. In maths this week we have been learning about dividing and we have had a teddy bear picnic where we made equal groups by grouping. We also made equal groups by sharing. We made groups of two with socks on our washing line outside too. This week in our outdoor classroom we learned that we could use the logs to balance and we were able to count in 2’s as we moved from one log to another. Then on Thursday we went to another multi skills festival which we really enjoyed and during the last activity we really showed off our dancing skills! Nice moves Larks!
The Swifts have had a wonderful week exploring magnets and how they create a push and pull force. The children learnt that magnets can attract and repel and if there is a strong force, can even travel through surfaces! The children did a wonderful job exploring items that were magnetic and began to develop skills where they could create a strong force by layering the magnets on top of each other to create a stronger force.
The children have been very creative making Valentines day card and created beautiful photos to capture them showing love to special people in their lives. There was some wonderful messages written inside with many children really thinking and sharing how much their family mean to them and how lucky they feel to have such loving homes. We certainly saw many happy parents on the drive on Tuesday and in the school hall! Wonderful job Swifts!
The class also created their demo of their Roman sandal. It was very successful and they can’t wait to develop their binding skills in DT and create their final designs this week! A fantastic term spent developing their knowledge of roman footwear, to using ICT to find roman footwear for design inspiration, to sketching and designing to then creating their sandal! What a wonderful job they have done!
In the Owls’ class this week we have developed our design and technology skills to make a motorised Moon Buggy. We have been learning all about the different space probes used to explore the moon and other planets in our Solar System, and were keen to design our own ‘rover’. Do you know that there are currently rovers on both the moon and Mars?
On Valentine’s Day, we created our own lovable love hedgehogs to send to those special people in our lives. We really appreciate everything our parents, teachers and friends do for us and wanted to say thank you. On Friday we also received a reply from Bishop Malcolm, thanking us for our letters of welcome, as well as the invitation to visit our school. We were delighted to hear back from him.
