Robins and Wrens have talked about what they do online. We read Hanni’s window story and we talked about having the right to be safe online and who we would talk to if we saw something that upset us online. Casper told us that his Xbox has a password so he can’t play on ninja games without his dad. Erika told us that she needs to ask her Mummy if she wants to go on the ipad. Benjamin told us that he can only go on Youtube kids because it is safer than the real Youtube. We then used the tux paint app to draw pictures of what we like to do when online.
We have loved engaging in Children’s Mental Health Week. We have tried to connect with someone new by finding people who like different things, like reading or dogs. We did lots of mindful colouring which we have enjoyed and found very relaxing. On Tuesday we had our own assembly hosted by the NSPCC helping us to think about the trusted adults in our lives. The worry monster came to our classroom this week too and we were able to share our thoughts and worries with him, this really helped us to speak about our worries. We celebrated Safer Internet day this week as well and we made posters to put up to help others when using the internet. We know how to be safe and who to talk to if something doesn’t feel right. In art we have been learning about the art work Paul Klee has done and we learned how to mix tints of colour. We loved doing this. In history we went on a exploration to the North Pole but before we could reach there Roald Amundsen wrote us a letter to tell us that someone else had arrived there first but instead of giving up we were going to be the first to get to the South Pole and we made it! We have opened a veterinary surgery and we have helped so many animals. puppies have been born and we have x-rayed poorly legs, it has been great! We have counted in 2’s. 5’s and 10’s, we have made equal groups and added equal groups this week in maths. We also made boats to help us to get to the south pole. We planned these carefully because they needed to be able to get through tough ice and that was tricky. We also made some potions in the mud kitchen and used all sorts to make it special. We also used circles to paint and then we realised we were using circles and went on a circle hunt and found so many circles in our outside classroom. What a week!
We began our week looking at the effects of a push and pull force by comparing different shapes of objects. The children were amazed at how far a balloon could travel if it was more streamlined and developed further variables about the shape of the balloon and the amount of air in each balloon effecting the investigation.
For Children’s Mental Health week and Safer Internet week, the children connected through a range of wonderful activities. A favourite that kept us laughing and learning was our hula hoop circuit activity. The children had to problem solve how to move the hoop around the circle without letting go of each other’s hands. Each time the hoop moved, the children shared information about themselves and it was wonderful to connect through our likes and dislikes. We also learnt about our human rights this week. We created small aliens with our own personalities like the ones from the NSPCC website and shared all of the rights we have. The children expressed how happy they were to know and learn all of the rights, with many expressing how lucky we are to have access to so much support.
The children also interviewed Julius Caesar this week for their report writing. As reporters, they needed the inside scoop on Caesar’s plans for Britain with many adapting the historical context with a creative twist and a lot of humour! The children really enjoyed the task and learning and can’t wait to report the full event next Friday in their news studio!
The children in Owls wrote what they had learnt after watching the video which they then shared before putting in our floor book. In class we are reading Cosmic by Frank Cottrel-Boyce and one chapter compared visible and invisible friends (online). We linked this to English, comparing as a class advantages and disadvantages.
