We have been talking about Jesus’ mission on Earth and have reflected on the strength and courage God has given us to help us to follow in Jesus’ footsteps. We know we have been ‘called’ to make the world a better place and have choreographed a liturgical dance to one of our favourite songs and even designed and made a cloak of blessings to be worn by anyone who feels ‘poor in spirit’, ‘broken-hearted’ or ‘imprisoned’.

In PE we have worked with Staindrop school to develop our netball skills.

The Swifts have been very busy and creative with their learning across the curriculum. We began the week learning some new words linked to our Science topic of forces. To help us understand forces in action more, we brought our scientific enquiry to life to see just how often we use forces and need them in our daily life. We couldn’t believe how much forces help us from walking, skating to even flying a plane! Some of us put friction to the test and discovered how tricky it is without it in an observation task of gripping with our socks and pulling the rope – though we may have gotten carried away with a game or 10 of tug of war!

We also learnt about our planet Earth and created the 4 layers of Earth using our sport resources. The class couldn’t believe that our planet had liquid metal of 5000 degrees within it! They did a fantastic job creating Earth and presenting what they had learnt.

Olivia joined us all together in prayer and lead us on a beautiful liturgical prayer linking to the Gospel Mark. We all enjoyed linking our own lives to the scripture and reflecting on our choices. Thank you Olivia for the creative moment of prayer.

This week has been so much fun, on Monday we started making light houses linking to the Lost and Found story when the little boy went to the harbour but his voice was too small! The cheeky penguin from the story disappeared again and he sent us a postcard and we used this to look for clues to find him. Before we found him we wrote a postcard back.

We practiced our skill of mixing colours for art, we learned this last term but we wanted to practice more before we start looking at shades this term. We used our skills and knowledge of the South Pole to build a safe place for Penguins to live, we knew it would be cold and windy so we had to choose our equipment carefully. Some children even measured Penguin to make sure their shelter was big enough. This week we started looking at animal groups and we played a game where we had to name as many animals as we could. We were very good at that! On Thursday we were so shocked because Christopher Columbus arrived in class and we got to ask him lots of questions, we found out so much about him… what an extraordinary explorer!

“Oh Grandma what big eyes you have!” “All the better to see you with…” Can you guess which story Robins and Wrens have been reading this week? We have created a story path of Little Red Riding Hood’s journey, printed an enchanted forest and baked cakes for Grandma. Our favourite character has been the wolf which has inspired us to ask questions about wolves and research them using the ipads as well as make posters all about wolves.

During our Liturgical prayer time we used the blessed chalk to create an epiphany blessing on our classroom, saying a prayer.
